REMEDIAL MASSAGE SERVICES

What is REMEDIAL MASSAGE THERAPY?

Remedial massage therapy is the assessment and treatment of soft tissue dysfunctions that cause pain and restrict human movement.

The assessment part involves the recording of a comprehensive history, observations, palpation, motion testing and a range of other physical testing procedures. Based on the assessment, the remedial massage therapists develop a working diagnosis (an explanation based on known facts uncovered during examination). From this they prepare a treatment plan.

The treatment part consists of a range of techniques (the tools in the massage therapist's tool box) that have been developed by manual therapists from many fields of practice, such as massage, musculoskeletal medicine, osteopathy, physiotherapy, chiropractic and other body work and movement therapies.

NMT mostly involves the application of thumb / finger pressure for the assessment and treatment of hypotonic tissue.
NMT aims to produce modification in dysfunctional tissue; encouraging a restoration of functional normality, with a particular focus of deactivating myofascial trigger points.
An alternative objective for the application of NMT is the normalization of imbalances in hypertonic and/or fibrotic tissues, either as an end in itself or as a precursor to joint mobilization or manipulation.
